I think I need to get my eyes checked because every time I look in the mirror I see spots before my eyes! And, it is strange how the older I get the more spots I see!! I think that I must have some leopard or cheetah DNA in my blood because I have light brown spots, dark brown spots, white spots and even red spots! My hubby has commented that I have entire constellations on my back made up of spots! Just like God said in Jer 33:22 “As the host of the heavens cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, …” so it seems are my spots!

Now I will admit that some of my spots probably come from enjoying too much sunshine in the summer. However, I have recently discovered that my predisposition to “collect” spots is, in fact, due to genetics inherited from my Mom (gee – thanks Mom – lol). (To be perfectly fair to my mother, she inherited her spottiness from her mom too).

But physical spots are not the only kind of spots, marks or stains that I have inherited. From the time of my birth, I have been marked by the stain of sin, as have all humankind, because of the original sin of Adam’s disobedience to God’s command to not eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Gen 2:16,17 And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree in the garden, but you shall not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. For in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

Gen 3:11 And He [God]said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree which I commanded you that you should not eat?
Gen 3:12 And the man [Adam] said, The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.

Because of Adam’s disobedience, sin entered into the world and all humanity has been infected, stained and marked by sin and its consequence – death.

Rom 5:12 Therefore, even as through one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed on all men inasmuch as all sinned:

Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, …

Moses, when admonishing the Israelites, describes those who have sinned against God as having a blemish (MKJV) or a spot (KJV)

Deu 32:5 They have corrupted themselves: they are not His sons; it is their blemish; they are a crooked and perverse generation.

In my attempt to remove, lighten or conceal my body’s spots, I have used scrubbers, chemical peels, lemon juice, cosmetic bleacher, and makeup without a whole lot of success. I have so many spots now that I would need to go for regular body paint jobs!

As difficult as it is to remove or disguise my physical spots, there was no way that I could, in my own ability, remove the spot of sin on my life. I needed to turn to the only person who could remove the stain of sin from me – Jesus Christ, the son of God. Jesus could do this because he was the only human who was never stained by sin. The sinless blood he shed for me washed me clean from my spot of sin.

Joh 1:29 The next day John sees Jesus coming to him and says, Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Heb 9:14 how much more shall the blood of Christ (who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God) purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

1Pe 1:18,19 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot;

We need to be washed by the blood of Christ because the stain of sin prevents us from having fellowship with our Heavenly Father, God. Only the pure and clean can stand before God’s throne. Jesus is preparing us, his church,  to be like him – clean and holy.

Eph 5:27 that He might present it to Himself as the glorious church, without spot or wrinkle or any such things, but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Like the apostle Peter, my prayer for you is that you will seek out Jesus and the kingdom of God so that you too may be spotless and without blemish in the sight of God.

2Pe 3:14 Therefore, beloved, looking for these things, be diligent, spotless, and without blemish, to be found by Him in peace…
